Modern, romantic compositions for
orchestra
Reviewer: Tamara D.
Turner *****
These
gentle and warm compositions for orchestra are perfect for
undivided listening or soothing background music. With the
melodic sensitivity and energy of Sibelius and evocative
atmosphere of Dvorak, these poetic fantasies dance, seduce and
float through the imagination with the force and delicacy of
water over rock. With an acute ear for the abundant palette of
the orchestra and the subtleties of stirring orchestration,
Vinson's balanced crafting of ensembles within ensembles is
steady and finespun.
Biography
Robert Vinson is a dynamic, eclectic composer
residing in Los Angeles, California. Growing up in the arts
minded community of Woodstock, N.Y., he began composing at the
age of 16. He went on to receive a Master of Music Degree from
the Manhattan School of Music and soon became part of the New
York music scene. He worked as a composer, arranger, and
performer in New York City from 1975-1981. Although he earned
his living in the commercial music field, his real passion was
to compose new music for the symphonic orchestra.
In
1981 he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where he worked
until 1987. While in Vancouver he performed with the Vancouver
Symphony and recorded two Jazz albums, one of which won him a
spot on the 1985 Montreux Jazz Festival.
Mr. Vinson
moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to study Film-Score Composition.
He studied composition with many of Hollywood's leading film
composers.
Mr. Vinson founded Beachwood Classical
Recordings to promote his compositions and those of other
living composers.
